THE WORK OF JAYDEN SOUTHWORTH

I like to write,
and build things,
sometimes.

A lot of my coding has been personal work: modding games, fixing mods, and learning on my own.

My projects range from game mods and web applications to Aethel, a structured-writing prototype. I learn what the problem calls for and build from there.

01 / Neighborhood-market demo

Store Shoppers

A neighborhood market, from storefront to picking.

What I builtCustomer storefront, management dashboard, and phone-first picking workflow.

Store Shoppers is a neighborhood-market demo built with Go, HTMX and SQLite. Customers browse products and place simulated orders; a management dashboard oversees stock and orders; an employee app brings product scanning and quantity checks into the aisle.

Keeping the order and the shelves in sync

One Go server renders HTML, with HTMX updating forms and page fragments. Checkout saves the order and deducts stock in one SQLite transaction. Repeat submissions return the existing order; inventory adjustments keep an audit trail, and fulfillment changes follow guarded transitions.

Aethel

Public prototype · Structured writing

A structured-writing experiment built with SvelteKit, TypeScript and TipTap/ProseMirror. Explores object-reference chips, timeline state, undo/redo, browser persistence, and JSON import/export.

[[character]]Linked objectProject file

Conceptual reference flow

References inside the text

A custom TipTap extension turns a double-bracket reference into an inline chip. It stores the object’s identifier separately from the displayed text, along with its status and color. Clicking a resolved chip can open the referenced object.

Reference extension source

Reversible changes

The editor’s history system supports undo and redo. Related operations can be grouped into one history entry; undo runs the group in reverse, and redo reapplies it in order.

Undo/redo source

A project you can save

The serialization layer gathers objects, timeline placements and timeslots, milestones, and interface state into a project file. Browser import and export use JSON, including the .aethel file extension. Import checks the expected project structure before restoring it.

Client + API application

A client, an API, and the transfer flow between them.

Java · Spring Boot · PostgreSQL

TEnmo uses a command-line client and a REST API to let users send, request, and approve money transfers. The backend uses Spring Data JPA and Spring Security, with PostgreSQL for data storage.

What I worked on

I worked on API request exchanges, server-side architecture, and the client-side connection logic that joins the flow together.

Across the client-server boundary

The command-line interface is the user’s entry point. Requests cross into the REST API, with PostgreSQL behind the application’s data.

Command-line application

Inventory, program state, and the details of a transaction.

Java · OOP · File I/O

Vendo-Matic 800 models a vending machine in a command-line application. It reads inventory from a text file and writes transactions to a log. The flow runs from a deposit and product selection through to change.

What I worked on

I worked on program-state design and refactored complex functions into smaller methods, making the transaction flow easier to follow.

From inventory to a transaction log

The inventory enters through a text file; transactions are written to a log. Between those file operations, the program handles the deposit, product selection, and change. The refactoring work focused on breaking larger functions into smaller methods around that flow.

Background & learning

Alongside personal programming projects, I’ve worked in customer-facing, team leadership, and operations roles. That experience shapes how I think about the people on the other side of an interface.

Merit America’s 30-week full-stack development program, completed in 2022, covered Java, SQL and Spring, client-server programming, and React. Additional Front-End Web Development with React certificate through the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Coursera, 2022.

Interface

React · JavaScript · Redux · HTML + CSS · Jest

Store Shoppers uses server-rendered HTML and HTMX for catalog, basket, and manager interactions.

Application

Java · Spring Boot · REST APIs · JUnit

My training projects included client-server request flows, program-state design, and refactoring larger functions into smaller methods.

Data & workflow

PostgreSQL · SQL · Git · CI/CD · Agile

The projects here include database-backed application flows and file-based inventory and transaction logs.
